1930s Basket Quilt
When I saw this quilt top at an antique shop in Beaver Co. I didn’t hold out much hope for it. I loved the fabrics and the colors and for $25 I wanted to give it a try.
There are a lot if bias edges in this quilt and even though it was hand pieced there were a lot of squares that were very “lumpy”. I have heard that in the 1920s, 30s and 40s they used different colors of thread when quilting, so I chose a vining stencil for the sashing and quilted this with green thread and used white thread for the baskets. This quilt was on the rack for close to 2 years, but I think it turned out pretty smooth considering how it started. I didn’t add a border but I used a reproduction fabric for the binding
